HANDMADE WOOD POLARISED SUNGLASSES
At Orchill we like to focus on making functional products that look amazing have a little zest and a little colour, so, when we decided to start doing sunglasses, we knew they were going to have to be special. We started with the lens. We use UV400 Cat3 polarised lenses on every pair of our sunnies. UV400 lenses block 99-100% of both types of UV radiation wavelengths up to 400 nanometers from harming your eyes, So in simple terms, they are the most protective lenses for everyday use. On top of this, all of our lenses are polarised. Polarisation is horizontal lines of molecules on the lenses that cut the glare from the light bouncing up from the road, water, snow or any other reflective surfaces and should definitely be a priority when choosing a new pair of sunglasses.
We tried a lot of different materials for the frames; Hardwood was the absolute stand out. It looks and feels great on your face; it's light and biodegradable. We realised the most robust way to use any wood is to cut it into thin strips or veneers and adhere them back together with alternating grains like they do making baseball bats, skateboards, or any wooden item that need to be tough, so all of our hardwood frames are made with this strengthening proses.
All of our sunglasses are handmade. We hope you will love them as much as we do.
